It's
around midnight on Friday in the Big Tomato. There's a crowd hangin' out in
front of the Torch Club. The Luminators have just ended the second set and the
boogyin' crowd is coming out for some of that cool delta breeze.
The
Luminators have quickly turned into one of Sacramento's hottest blues-based
bar bands. After backing Arbess Williams for the past two years, they've come
into their own. There's Pat Balcom tearin' the skins off the drums, Dave Garrity
playin' some funky bass, and Lew Fratis fronting the three piece with some scorchin'
guitar and smooth vocals. They started out with a regular Wednesday gig at Sam's
Hof Brau. Now it's Mondays at the Press Club, Thursday's at Callison's, Fridays
at the Torch, and every now and then the occasional gig with Arbess.
Every night is different. You never know what to expect. Just like you'll find here. Hey, the music's startin' again, sounds kind of twangy, yup, I think it's the melody to that country tune, "If you get a line, I'll get a pole." The packed crowd of mid-towners, blueshounds, bar regulars, and luminatin' fans, takes to the dance floor and the place again transforms into a sweaty pile.
It's Friday night, must be the Torch.
